Notes

Notes from the desk.

Short pieces from the house about candles, reading, and the hours after dark.

The closed stacks

From the closed stacks: a short story with every candle

Every Night Library candle comes with a short story chosen for it, set by the house as a small book to read on your phone. Here are the six, and why each one belongs to its candle.

Reading late

Candles for reading at night, and how to set up the hour

A lamp, a chair, one candle, and the phone in another room. Here is how we set up the reading hour, and which of our six candles suits which hour.

A phrase people use

What is a dark academia candle?

Dark academia is a look people search for, and many candles wear the name. Here is what it means, what it is not, and where a library at night fits in.

Giving one

Gifts for someone who stays up reading

Which of the six candles suits which reader, what is printed on the label, and why it is worth ordering about two weeks before the day.

What is in the jar

Coconut apricot wax and soy wax, and why our shelves differ

After Dark is poured in coconut apricot wax and Open Hours in soy. Here is what each wax is, what they share, and how they differ, in plain words.

Looking after it

How to burn a candle so it lasts

Burn it to the edge the first time, keep the wick short, rest it after four hours, and stop at the last half inch. Then you get every hour in the jar.

The doors are open.
